Ed Adams to deliver BYU devotional address May 10

Ed Adams, associate dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communications, will the speaker at the Brigham Young University campus devotional Tuesday, May 10, at 11:05 a.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall.

The devotional will be broadcast live on the BYU Broadcasting channels and online at byub.org. Rebroadcast and archive information will be available at byub.org/devotionals or speeches.byu.edu.

Prior to his appointment as associate dean in 2008, Adams served as chair of the BYU Department of Communications from 2003 to 2008. Before serving as chair, he served as associate chair in the department between 2000 and 2003. Prior to his arrival at BYU, he taught at universities in Texas and Ohio. His industry experience includes managing a magazine publishing company in Phoenix, Ariz.

He has published more than 50 peer-reviewed articles, reviews, book chapters and biographical encyclopedia entries. He has also presented more than 50 papers at conferences. His scholarly work focuses primarily on the business and economic history of the media.

He was named the most-outstanding journalism professor under the age of 40 by the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication in 1998, and he was named in the first edition of “Who's Who in the Media and Communications” in 1999.

He received a doctorate in mass communications from Ohio University, a master’s degree in communications from BYU, a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Phoenix and an associate’s degree from Ricks College.
