Eastern European poet to give reading at BYU Oct. 15

Tomaž  Šalamun (Toh-MAH-sh  SAH-la-mahn) will be reciting select readings from his acclaimed Eastern European poetry at the Brigham Young University Harold B. Lee Library Auditorium at noon Friday, Oct. 15.

Šalamun first attracted critical notice with his first poem collection, “Poker,” which was published when he was 25. Considered one of the foremost figures of the Eastern European poetical avant-garde, Šalamun  is revered by many American poets for his unique surrealistic style. His books have been translated into 19 languages and nine of his 37 books of poetry have been published in English.

The event is co-sponsored by the BYU Departments of English and European Studies and the David M. Kennedy Center for International Studies. For more details, visit english.byu.edu/ers/ or contact Chris Crowe at chris_crowe@byu.edu or (801) 422-3429.
