"Deer Diversity" exhibit now on display at BYU's Monte L. Bean Museum

Brigham Young University’s Monte L. Bean Life Science Museum recently opened its newest center atrium exhibit, “Deer Diversity.”

The display includes many representative species from the family Cervidae, including deer, moose, elk, caribou and muntjac, and emphasizes adaptations that support the animals’ survival in their natural habitats.

Deer shows will take place every Thursday at 7:30 p.m., but private shows may be scheduled for groups at other times. Shows must be scheduled at least one week in advance. To schedule a private show, call (801) 422-5051.

Several hands-on elements in the exhibit allow patrons to examine the differences between horns and antlers, as well as admire developing antlers in velvet and mature antlers. A ruminant stomach typical of deer is also part of the exhibit.

The Monte L. Bean Life Science Museum, located at 645 E. 1430 North in Provo, is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Admission to the museum is free.

For more information, contact the Monte L. Bean Life Science Museum at (801) 422-5052.
