Deaf, hearing actors combine for "The Fantastic Mr. Fox" at BYU Feb. 9-10

Produced by Cleveland-based Signstage On Tour

Actors from the deaf and hearing cultures will work together to present Roald Dahl’s children’s story “The Fantastic Mr. Fox” in both American Sign Language and English on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 9-10, at 7:30 p.m. in the Pardoe Theatre in the Harris Fine Arts Center at Brigham Young University.

There will also be a matinee at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Admission is $10, with a $4 discount for students and children. To purchase tickets, contact the Fine Arts Ticket Office at (801) 422-7664 or visit performances.byu.edu.

With a plotline comparable to “The Adventures of Peter Rabbit,” “The Fantastic Mr. Fox” features the conniving Mr. Fox and his family and neighbors as they come up with a plan to outsmart three tyrannical farmers who live nearby and threaten the animals’ homes.

Produced by Signstage On Tour, the cast includes both deaf and hearing actors. As a character signs, the spoken English is delivered over speakers by actors who speak from on or offstage. Visually, the stage is filled with the movement of bodies and hands.

Signstage on Tour was founded in 1975 by one deaf and one hearing actor. The company presents mainstage productions in Cleveland, Ohio, and throughout the country, reaching more than 150,000 people of all ages annually.

For more information, contact Laura Horstkamp at (540) 592-9573 or Ken Crossley at (801) 422-9348.
