DATE CHANGE: Celebration announced for BYU’s National Centers of Excellence Oct. 21

The David M. Kennedy Center for International Studies at Brigham Young University is hosting a celebration of its National Centers of Excellence in Asia, Europe, the Middle East and Global Management on Thursday, Oct. 21, at 11 a.m. in the Conference Room (room 238) of the Herald R. Clark Building.

The public is invited to join Sandra Rogers, BYU international vice president, faculty directors, faculty affiliates and students as BYU’s four U.S. Department of Education Title VI-funded centers and their directors are recognized and celebrated. They include:

• Center for the Study of Europe, Wade Jacoby and Martha Peacock;
• International Consortium for Asia and Pacific Studies (with the University of Utah), Eric Hyer and Janet Theiss;
• National Middle East Language Center, Kirk Belnap and Maggie Nassif; and
• Whitmore Global Management Center, Lee Radebaugh and Cynthia Halliday.

These centers are affiliated with the College of Humanities, the Marriott School of Management and the David M. Kennedy Center.

"Our efforts to compete on a national level in Title VI funding have been successful,” said Jeff Ringer, Davd M. Kennedy Center director. “BYU is increasingly recognized as a national powerhouse for international and areas studies, foreign language and international business."

The event will feature brief presentations on each federally funded center, a chance to meet with this years' BYU student recipients of the lucrative Foreign Language Area Scholarships, and the opportunity to receive useful information on how faculty, staff and students may benefit from these new opportunities for improved research and international activities at BYU, especially in an era of limited resources.

Contact the David M. Kennedy Center for International Studies for more information at (801) 422-3377, kennedycenter@byu.edu or kennedy.byu.edu.
