DanceSport Championships return to BYU March 10-12

Brigham Young University's Department of Dance will host the U.S. National DanceSport Championships Thursday through Saturday, March 10-12, in the Marriott Center.

The Amateur DanceSport Congress will also be held Wednesday, March 9, from 7-10 p.m. in the Marriott Center.

Tickets are available at the Marriott Center Ticket Office at (801) 422-2981. For a complete schedule of events, visit www.byudancesport.com/nationals.

Ticket prices vary according to seats and competition day.

o Thursday, March 10: $30 for main floor seating, $12 and $9 for student/child for arena seating, $8 for BYU students in the BYU student section.

o Friday, March 11: $30 for main floor seating, $12 and $9 for student/child for arena seating, $8 for BYU students in the BYU student section.

o Saturday, March 12: $50 for main floor seating, $16 and $12 for student/child for arena seating, $10 for BYU students in the BYU student section.

o Three-day passes: $35 and $25 for student/child in arena seating and $23 for BYU students in bleacher seating.

Participants in the DanceSport competition are some of the finest ballroom dancers in the world.

"It's a great honor to see the top ballroom couples in the world come and dance at BYU," said Curt Holman, BYU division director of ballroom dance. "This event is also great entertainment and fun. You have the opportunity to see a variety of dancing, from beginning dancers all the way up to the most exquisite ones."

BYU offered its first social dance class in 1953. Since then the Ballroom Dance Program has rapidly progressed and is now considered the most comprehensive study of ballroom dancing in a university setting in the world.

With seven studios and more than 100 classes taught yearly, the program instruction and training from beginning to advanced and competitive levels in the International Style Latin, Standard Ballroom and Social Dance (American Style). More than 5,000 students participate in BYU's ballroom dance program each year.

BYU study finds the real reasons why some people choose not to use artificial intelligence

In a recent study, BYU professors Jacob Steffen and Taylor Wells explored why some people are still reluctant to use GenAI tools. While some people might worry about an AI apocalypse, Steffen and Wells found that most non-users are more concerned with issues like trusting the results, missing the human touch or feeling unsure if GenAI is ethical to use.
