Curator of Britain's Wordsworth Trust to speak at BYU April 8

The Harold B. Lee Library at Brigham Young University will host guest lecturer Jeff Cowton, curator of the Wordsworth Trust based in the United Kingdom, Monday, April 8, at 4 p.m. in B192 Joseph F. Smith Building.

His lecture is titled “Meanings beyond the Words: Curating Manuscript Collections for a Wide Range of Audiences.” A reception will immediately follow after the lecture in B003 JFSB.

The Wordsworth Trust maintains historic buildings associated with British poet William Wordsworth, especially Dove Cottage, where Wordsworth was inspired by the enchanting surroundings to write some of his greatest works.

As the curator for the Trust, Cowton oversees caring for the literary collection and building up knowledge about Wordsworth’s life and works. Cowton, for dedicating 30 years to the trust, was awarded Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire from Queen Elizabeth II.

The lecture is in conjunction with the library’s newest exhibit, “William Wordsworth and The Invention of National Parks,” which attributes the origin of national parks and nature poetry to Wordsworth. The exhibit is located on level three and admission is free.
