Covey principles for youth taught in "Habits for Life" camps at BYU this summer

The principles taught by Stephen R. Covey, author of the best-selling “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People,” are the focus of a new camp offered at Brigham Young University this summer for high school-age youth.

Sessions will be held June 2-7, June 9-14 and Aug. 4-9, 2014. The camp is for youth ages 14-18 and the cost is $595. Registration is limited, so register early at habitsforlife.byu.edu to reserve a space.

“The Habits for Life Camp is designed to not just teach Covey’s habits but to also provide an immediate opportunity to begin practicing them,” said Sharon Meyers, camp administrator. “We want youth to go home highly motivated and confident that they can live these habits.”

Meyers said the response to the camp has exceeded expectations. However, the most common question she receives from parents is whether the camp will be fun.

“Parents understand the incredible value of what we will be teaching, but their youth want to make sure it will be fun too,” she said. “The actual classroom time is only 10 hours for the week, and we’ve selected teachers who are real experts in engaging youth. The bulk of each day will be spent in fun and clever ‘teaching moment’ kinds of activities where they can immediately begin to practice the habits. And of course we will have fun, social activities, including two dances.”
