"Cougar Cooldown" July 23 will attempt to break water balloon fight record

Brigham Young University will be attempting the world’s largest water balloon fight during the “Cougar Cooldown” Friday, July 23, at noon at the Richards Building Field sponsored by Student Academic and Advisement Services.

The goal is 4,000 participants with 120,000 water balloons. The previous record used 3,000 participants and 58,000 water balloons.

Participants are encouraged to sign up for free online at springsummer.byu.edu. Participants are not allowed to bring their own water balloons but will be provided ammunition at the event. They are also encouraged to wear protective eyewear.

The check-in for “Cougar Cooldown” will begin at 11 a.m., and participants will receive a free T-shirt to identify them as participants and to divide them into teams.

A free lunch will also be served afterward, and a blood drive will start at 12:30 p.m. in the Smith Fieldhouse Annex.

Those who donate blood at the "Cougar Cooldown" blood drive will be entered to win a laptop computer or tickets to see Tim McGraw in concert on July 30 at the USANA Amphitheatre in West Valley City. All donors are eligible to win. The drawings will be held July 26 for the tickets and Aug. 2 for the laptop.

Participants who wish to schedule an appointment for the blood drive can go to www.redcrossblood.org and enter the sponsor code byu (all lowercase letters).
