Conference puts students in touch with technology professionals

Speakers specializing in leadership, engineering and technology law will discuss current trends in the world's economy and businesses Saturday, March 13, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Wilkinson Student Center Skyroom on the Brigham Young University campus.

Students from all disciplines are invited to attend a Student Professional Awareness Conference, which will provide an opportunity for students to learn valuable skills needed for life after school.

Tickets are $5 if purchased by Tuesday, March 9, or $10 at the door. Tickets can be purchased in 459 Clyde Engineering Building and at the Wilkinson Student Center Information Desk. A catered lunch is included in the cost of the ticket.

Recruiters from leading technology companies will also be at the conference, allowing students the opportunity to network with professionals.

Guest speakers this year include Jim Park, Orin Laney and Paul Oestreich.

Park, president of a consulting practice specializing in leadership and organizational effectiveness, will discuss how business leaders of tomorrow must select and develop people, create growth opportunities and lead people into action.

Laney, an engineer, will explain employment contract negotiation, how to start your own business and what employers are really looking for in potential employees.

Oestreich, a partner in a Utah firm, will address the fundamentals of intellectual property law.

The conference is sponsored by BYU’s student chapter of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and by the Center for Entrepreneurship in the Marriott School of Management at BYU.
