Claudine Bigelow to present BYU faculty viola recital June 5

Claudine Bigelow, a faculty member in the Brigham Young University School of Music, will perform a free viola recital Wednesday, June 5, at 8:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall.

She will be assisted by Bryan Lew, Devan Freebairn, Kassia Aaron and Clark Roberts on the viola, Scott Holden on the piano and Jaren Hinckley on the clarinet.

The recital will begin with selections from “44 Duos” by Béla Bartók followed by “Ciaconna” by Ichiro Nodaira. The evening will continue with a transcription of the Partitia No. 2 for Solo Violin, BWV 1004 by Johann Sebastian Bach, selections from “Salutes to Seven Poets” by Douglas Lilburn and will end with the “Kegelstatt Trio” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Bigelow is the head of viola studies and is the chamber music coordinator for the School of Music. She received her bachelor's and master's degrees in music from BYU and her doctorate in music from the University of Maryland.

She has performed with a variety of orchestras and symphonies throughout the United States, including with the Utah Symphony, the National Symphony Orchestra, the Smithsonian Chamber Orchestra, the National Chamber Orchestra, and at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.
