Chilean ambassador to give BYU lecture Jan. 27

"Chile's Way to Development" will be the lecture topic for His Excellency Arturo Fermandois, Chilean ambassador to the United States, at Brigham Young University Friday, Jan. 27, at 2 p.m. in the Harold B. Lee auditorium on the library's first level.

Fermandois was appointed Chilean ambassador in 2010. He is a founding partner of Fermandois, Evans y Cia law firm and previously worked at the Studies and Foreign Trade Section of the prosecutor’s office of Banco del Estado de Chile.

Throughout his legal career, he served as an advisor to the negotiating team for the North America Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), arbiter of the Arbitration and Mediation Center of the Santiago Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the ICARE Legal Association as well as of the Chilean Association of Constitutional Law. As an academic, Fermandois was a teacher at Harvard University and an associate professor at the Law School of Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.
