Children's author Lloyd Alexander subject of BYU documentary screenings Oct. 18, 24

The life of Lloyd Alexander, a popular children’s author, will be illuminated in a mini- documentary made by Brigham Young University student Jared Crossley Thursday, Oct. 18, at 11 a.m. in the Harold B. Lee Library auditorium.

The 10-minute mini-documentary presentation will be followed by a question-and-answer session with a panel of Lloyd Alexander experts.

The following week on Wednesday, Oct. 24, at 4 p.m., Crossley’s full-length 60-minute documentary on Alexander will be shown in the same place. Both events are free and the public is invited

Alexander was a widely influential American author of more than 40 books, mostly fantasy novels for children and young adults. He is most known for “The Chronicles of Prydain,” two of which were the basis for the 1985 Disney movie “The Black Cauldron.”

Crossley fell in love with Alexander’s books after reading the Prydain series he bought as a gift for his sister in middle school. While searching for an idea for a film program entry project, he decided to make one about the author’s life.
