Chamber Music Society of New York plans BYU performance Nov. 12

The Brigham Young University School of Music welcomes the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center performing Wednesday, Nov. 12, at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall.

The Society will perform Crumb's "Voice of the Whale," Haydn's Symphony No. 94 in G major, "Surprise" for string quartet, flute and piano, and Franck's Quintet for piano and strings in F Minor.

The Society is the resident company at Lincoln Center devoted to the outstanding performance and creation of chamber music.

As the nation's premier repertory company for chamber music, it strives to bring audiences the finest performances of an extraordinary body of repertoire, dating as far back as the Renaissance and continuing through the centuries to the finest works of our time.

The Society is made up of 18 artist members who are joined by guest artists throughout the season. Artist members visiting BYU include Ransom Wilson, flute; Ani Kavafian, violin; Paul Neubauer, viola; Fred Sherry, cello; and Andre-Michel Schub, piano. The artist members will be joined by guest violinist Jennifer Frautschi.

Green-thumb dynasty: BYU landscaping wins fifth national championship in six years

For the fifth time in six years, BYU students dug, pruned and planted their way to the National Collegiate Landscaping Competition title, the March Madness of college landscaping teams. BYU bested 50 other universities in the four-day event, outscoring the second-place finisher by more than 358 points and breaking the 5000-point total for the first time in the 48-year history of the tournament.
