CANCELLED: "Charge of the Light Brigade" at BYU film series Oct. 17

Max Steiner Academy Award-nominated score re-recorded by guest speakers

"The Charge of the Light Brigade," starring Errol Flynn and Olivia de Havilland, will be shown in the Harold B. Lee Library Auditorium at Brigham Young University Friday, Oct. 17, at 7 p.m. as part of the ongoing BYU Motion Picture Archive Film Series.

Admission is free, but early seating is encouraged. No food or drink is permitted in the auditorium. Children ages 8 and older are welcome.

Conductor William J. Stromberg and music restorationist John W. Morgan, both of Los Angeles-based Tribute Film Classics, will be present as special guests to talk about film composer Max Steiner, who wrote the Academy Award-nominated music for this 1936 Warner Bros. film.

Stromberg and Morgan have re-recorded the film’s score with the Moscow Symphony Orchestra and will play portions of this new recording. A question-and-answer session will follow.

"The Charge of the Light Brigade" was directed by Michael Curtiz and was one of the most commercially successful movies of the 1930s. The story was inspired by the famous epic poem by Tennyson about the "noble 600" who rode to their death against the Russians during the Crimean War in 1854.
