C. Jeff Belliston to discuss “Gospel Gifts” at March 16 devotional

C. Jeff Belliston of Brigham Young University’s Harold B. Lee Library will be the speaker at the campus devotional Tuesday, March 16. The devotional will be held at 11:05 a.m. in the Marriott Center. His topic will be “Gospel Gifts.”

The BYU Broadcasting channels will air the devotional live. Rebroadcasts and archive information will be available at byub.org/devotionals or speeches.byu.edu.

Belliston is the assistant university librarian for scholarly communications, assessment and personnel at the Lee Library. He has been working at the library since 1999. Previous to coming to BYU, Belliston was a library consultant for Ameritech Library Services. He also worked at the Family History Library of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a cataloger of Spanish and Portuguese language materials.

He is a graduate of BYU, receiving his bachelor’s degree in history. He received his master’s in social studies education from Brown University which launched him into a career as a school history teacher. He taught school in Utah and Maine.

Belliiston left his teaching career to be a Foreign Service officer with the U.S. Department of State. He served as a vice-consul in the U.S. Embassy in San Salvador, El Salvador.

After returning from El Salvador, Belliston enrolled in library school at BYU and graduated with a master’s degree in library and information science. His professional expertise is in the study of lifecycles of scholarly information and the changes of digital technologies in libraries. In 2008, he was honored with the Faculty Librarianship Award for his work.

BYU professor Rob Sowby teaches and studies environmental engineering, urban water infrastructure and sustainability. He has particular expertise in the planning, design, construction and operation of public water systems. That expertise has been increasingly important (and regularly sought out) in the wake of apocalyptic wildfires that have taxed those public water systems.
