C. Arden Pope to deliver Karl G. Maeser Distinguished Faculty lecture

“What Are You Breathing, and Should You Inhale?”

C. Arden Pope, the Mary Lou Fulton Professor of Economics at Brigham Young University, will present the 2007 Karl G. Maeser Distinguished Faculty Lecture during a university forum Tuesday, Feb. 27, at 11:05 a.m. in the Marriott Center.

Pope will discuss “What Are You Breathing, and Should You Inhale?”

Known for his work in environmental epidemiology and making connections between health problems and air pollution, Pope has taught at BYU since 1984. He also worked as a professor and researcher at Iowa State University, Texas A&M University and Harvard University. His awards include the Utah Governor’s Medal for Science and Technology, the BYU Karl G. Maeser Excellence in Research and Creative Arts Award and being named an Interdisciplinary Program in Health fellow at Harvard University.

Pope earned bachelor’s degrees in agricultural economics and English from BYU and master’s and doctoral degrees in economics from Iowa State University. Since receiving his education, his professional affiliations have included the board of directors of the American Lung Association of Utah, the editorial board of “Environmental Health Perspectives” and the Scientific Advisory Committee of the National Research Center for Environmental Lung Disease.
