BYU's Steven P. Sondrup elected president of international association

Steven P. Sondrup of the Brigham Young University College of Humanities faculty was recently elected president of the International Comparative Literature Association.

Sondrup, who previously served as the secretary-general in the ICLA, will formally assume his presidency in the International Congress meeting of the ICLA in August in Korea.

The ICLA was founded in 1954 and consists of members from more than 30 nations, including Korea, Brazil, Japan, Spain, France, the United States and many more. The organization works to promote research in the field of comparative literature.

Sondrup teaches at BYU in the Humanities, Classics and Comparative Literature Department. He specializes in 19th- and 20th-century literature. He began his education at the University of Utah and later received his master’s degree and doctorate from Harvard University in 1969 and 1974, respectively.
