BYU's Scott Howell honored by national continuing education association

Scott L. Howell, assistant to the dean for the Division of Continuing Education at Brigham Young University, received the Research and Scholarship Award at the recent 91st annual meeting of the University Continuing Education Association.

Howell received the award for his contributions to the literature and professional practice of continuing higher education.

In addition, he received the Gayle B. Childs Award from the UCEA Distance Learning Community of Practice for distinguishing himself through outstanding contributions to the field of distance learning, which included sustained research, writing and leadership activities.

At the conference, Howell was also inducted as the 2006–2007 chair of the Distance Learning Association of the UCEA.

“Howell was particularly credited for his mentoring of graduate students and other colleagues,” said Richard Eddy, dean of the Division of Continuing Education. “He seldom undertakes a research project without including others.”
