BYU's Martin Fujiki named associate editor of top speech journal

The American Speech, Language, and Hearing Association, the primary professional organization for speech pathologists in the nation, has asked a faculty member in the Department of Communication Disorders at Brigham Young University to serve as an associate editor for one of its top journals.

Martin Fujiki has accepted the appointment and will begin editing the journal, Language, Speech, and Hearing Services in Schools, in January 2010.

“Dr. Fujiki is a highly respected scholar who is known for his rigorous research and insightful analyses of children’s language and communication skills. He is known to be a fair, objective, and constructive reviewer. It will be a great honor and a pleasure to work with him on the journal,” said editor Marilyn A. Nippold, a fellow of ASHA.

Fujiki has served as an associate editor for two other ASHA journals. In addition to this three-year commitment, Fujiki will continue his research in the field of speech, language, and hearing pathology while balancing his other BYU responsibilities.

“The biggest benefit of these appointments is that I have an opportunity to help shape what gets published,” he said.

Established in 1925, ASHA has 135,000 national and international members and affiliates.
