BYU's Jerry L. Jaccard receives award from Kodaly educators group

Jerry L. Jaccard, a Brigham Young University School of Music associate professor, received the Outstanding Educator Award of the Organization of American Kodály Educators.

The award was announced and presented at the 2004 OAKE National Conference in San Francisco.

OAKE is a professional society which teaches the concepts of Hungarian composer and humanitarian Zoltán Kodály. His concepts focused on teacher-education, school music reform and the music of children.

Jaccard specializes in musical pedagogy with emphasis in children's musical development. He has done research in a variety of pedagogical topics including European systems, comparative folksong musicology and the dynamics of music reading.

Green-thumb dynasty: BYU landscaping wins fifth national championship in six years

For the fifth time in six years, BYU students dug, pruned and planted their way to the National Collegiate Landscaping Competition title, the March Madness of college landscaping teams. BYU bested 50 other universities in the four-day event, outscoring the second-place finisher by more than 358 points and breaking the 5000-point total for the first time in the 48-year history of the tournament.
