BYU's Jazz Legacy Dixieland Band and "76 Trombones" in concert March 1

Brigham Young University's Jazz Legacy Dixieland Band, BYU Trombone Choir, guest artist Dan Barrett and "76 Trombones" will be featured in concert at Brigham Young University Thursday, March 1, at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall.

Tickets are $6 and can be purchased at the Fine Arts Ticket Office, (801) 422-4322 or at byuarts.com/tickets.

BYU music professors Steve Call and Will Kimball have been organizing as many trombone players as possible for the finale of the program, "76 Trombones," featuring 76 trombone players. Jazz trombonist Dan Barrett has written a special arrangement of the popular song from Meredith Wilson's "The Music Man" for this concert.

Barrett is one of the world's leading traditional jazz trombonists. He has dedicated his life to the study and performance of early jazz trombone styles and has been featured in jazz festivals all over the world. He can be heard on many movie sound tracks and CDs.

He will be featured performing with the BYU Jazz Legacy Dixieland, directed by  Call. The group recently returned from the Sacramento Traditional Jazz Festival where they won nearly every instrumental award in the Collegiate Division. Pianist Zach Wiggins won a $500 cash award for Outstanding Collegiate Musician.

Green-thumb dynasty: BYU landscaping wins fifth national championship in six years

For the fifth time in six years, BYU students dug, pruned and planted their way to the National Collegiate Landscaping Competition title, the March Madness of college landscaping teams. BYU bested 50 other universities in the four-day event, outscoring the second-place finisher by more than 358 points and breaking the 5000-point total for the first time in the 48-year history of the tournament.
