BYU's George Ryskamp honored by Utah Genealogical Association

George Ryskamp, Brigham Young University associate professor of history and director of the Center for Family History and Genealogy, received the Utah Genealogical Association Fellowship award last month at the FGS/UGA conference in Salt Lake City.

Ryskamp, one of the top specialists in the world in Spanish, Portuguese and southern European family history, had previously received a fellowship in 2003 from the international organization, the American Academy of Genealogy.

He received the award because of his contributions to the genealogical world, according to the citation. He has spoken at several conferences and given lectures throughout the world, and will be the keynote speaker in Washington at a conference at the National Archives.

Ryskamp’s contributions also include several textbooks, many articles in scholarly journals and other presentations and workshops.

Each year, only three organizations in the nation grant fellowships to major contributors in recognition of their outstanding service to the field of genealogy.
