BYU's Dwight Laws honored by distance-learning organization

Dwight Laws, director of Brigham Young University Independent Study, received the Best Practice Award for leadership in distance-learning education this summer at a Distance Learning Administration conference in Georgia.

Laws has been involved with the Distance Learning Administration for three years and has been a catalyst of innovation in distance learning.

“Under Laws’s leadership, BYU’s distance-learning program has become one of the best in the country,” said Justin Johansen, assistant director of Independent Study

Laws received a doctorate degree in instructional psychology and technology from BYU, and he has worked for BYU for 21 years as director of conferences and workshops, associate director of Travel Study and director of Independent Study.

BYU’s distance-learning program allows students all over the world to take courses on the Internet or through paper correspondence.
