BYU's Douglas Bush to present organ recital Sept. 19

Brigham Young University School of Music faculty member Douglas Bush will give a free organ recital Friday, Sept. 19, at 7:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall.

Bush's concert will feature music composed by Johann Sebastian Bach, ranging from Bach's earliest works to music dictated on his deathbed.

Bush said he chose to play music by Bach because of his passion for Bach's music.

"There are few composers in all the history of music who are revered as much and whose music claims the same stature," Bush said.

In his 25 years at BYU, Bush has taught classes on music history, organ and a Bach seminar. Bush received his bachelor's degree in 1972 and his master's degree in 1974, both from BYU, and his doctorate from the University of Texas at Austin in 1982.
