BYU's Deseret Piano Trio plans Feb. 2 recital

Brigham Young University’s Deseret Piano Trio will perform at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 2, in the Madsen Recital Hall in the Harris Fine Arts Center. Admission is free.

The trio includes School of Music faculty members Jeffrey Shumway on the piano, Monte Belknap on the violin and Julie Bevan on the cello.

During the first half of the performance, the trio will perform the Piano Trio No. 4 in E minor, “Dumky,” Op. 90, by Antonín Dvořák. After an intermission, they will continue with the Piano Quartet No. 1 in C minor, Op. 15 by Gabriel Fauré, with BYU faculty violist Claudine Bigelow.

The members of the Deseret Piano Trio are no strangers to the stage. Each has been featured in many performances outside the group. Shumway recently performed in the American Piano Duo at BYU, Belknap will perform the 10 Beethoven piano and violin sonatas with Barbara Allen in a series of performances this semester and Bevan will direct a student cello performance just two days before the trio’s performance.

For more information, contact Jeffrey Shumway at (801) 422-4922 or at jeff_shumway@byu.edu.
