#BYUDevo Recap: Israeli Supreme Court Justice speaks at BYU

Israeli Supreme Court Justice Daphne Barak-Erez spoke at the Forum on Tuesday, in the Marriott Center.

Justice Barak-Erez spoke about the importance of remembering the uniqueness of human individual when participating in the law-making process.

"The most obvious characteristic of human nature is the uniqueness of each individual; no individual is exactly like another," Barak-Erez said. "Jewish traditional texts use this idea as an example for the greatness of God. These texts point to the fact that although all human beings descended from one person, Adam, who was created by God, they are all so different from one another."

While modern life has given emphasis on the "general and utilitarian side of law", Barak-Erez said it is important to remember "law should not only regulate but also should be concerned about human beings."
