BYU Women's Research Institute celebrates Women's History Month

As part of Women’s History Month during March, the BYU Women's Research Institute is partnering with Women’s Services and Resources to sponsor a film series and colloquium on the Brigham Young University campus dealing with various women’s issues.

Four events will take place on Thursdays at noon in 325 Spencer W. Kimball Tower. The events include:

  • March 4, Women's Studies film series, "Full Circle: The Ideal of a Sexually Egalitarian Society on the Kibbutz." The film uses interviews and commentary on the evolution of family life and work roles within the kibbutz to raise questions about the permanence of social reform.

  • March 11, Women's Studies colloquium. Four students graduating in women’s studies will share parts of their research projects. The projects include "Dating Interactions" by Allison Liechty, "Toys and Careers" by Laura Wise, "Unwed Mothers and Welfare" by Melissa Heid and "Loneliness and Belongingness" by Briahna Bushman.

  • March 18, Women's Studies film series, "In Women's Hands: The Changing Roles of Women." The film explores the Chilean women of every social class who organized themselves to defy the repression of the Pinochet regime and to create better living conditions for their families.

  • March 25, Women's Studies colloquium. Yodit Solomon, director of field research at the Women’s Research Institute, will discuss "Women in Mali.” Solomon is currently investigating the Ouelessebougou-Utah Alliance and recently returned from Mali.
