BYU Wind Symphony to perform March 24

The Brigham Young University Wind Symphony, one of America’s most widely toured university concert bands, will treat audiences to an energetic performance Wednesday, March 24, at 7:30 p.m., in the de Jong Concert Hall.

Tickets at $9 with $3 off with BYU or student ID are available through the Fine Arts Ticket Office, (801) 378-4322 or at www.byu.edu/hfac.

Comprised of nearly 50 brass, woodwind and percussion instruments, the Wind Symphony delights audiences with an exhilarating kaleidoscope of music. In addition to marches and arrangements of classical pieces, the group presents contemporary works by composers from throughout the world.

Directed by David Blackinton, the program will include music by Dmitri Shostakovich, Morton Gould, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, Percy Grainger, Robert Jager, Leonard Bernstein and Adam Gorb.

The program will also feature Geralyn Giovannetti as an oboe soloist, and Donald Peterson as guest conductor.

The Wind Symphony has been a guest performer at the College Band Directors’ National Association Convention and at the Music Educators’ National Conference, and has toured internationally to Great Britain, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Finland, Russia, Estonia, Latvia, Hong Kong, the People’s Republic of China, Taiwan, Australia and New Zealand.
