BYU will celebrate Utah Prehistory and Heritage Week at May 13 block party

The Brigham Young University Museum of Peoples and Cultures will host a free Prehistory Day Celebration in conjunction with Utah Prehistory and Heritage Week on Saturday, May 13, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the museum, located at 700 N. 100 E. in Provo.

The event will offer activities and entertainment, all beginning with a street fair and block party. Visitors can learn to make cordage, arrowheads and other traditional crafts, and Morning Star, an American Indian dance troupe, will perform.

Free guided tours of the student-curated exhibitions at the museum will also be available.

Two major exhibitions are currently on display in the museum: “Rise Up from Fragments: Life and Art of the Western Anasazi” and “Seeking the Divine: Ritual, Prayer and Celebration.”

The Museum of Peoples and Cultures is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information or to schedule a guided tour, call Rebecca Shippen at (801) 422-0020.
