Biology professor and students to monitor frogs' progress
A Brigham Young University biologist and his students are monitoring the progress of Columbia spotted frogs they helped reintroduce to a Utah nature preserve in an attempt to reverse the decline of the frogs in Utah.
Mark Belk, associate professor of integrative biology, and his students had been feeding tadpoles in protective cages in the ponds near Park City since May. Now grown into young frogs, the animals were released Aug. 5. The BYU biologists will track the frogs and use this as a test case to guide other efforts to reintroduce sensitive species to their natural habitats.
