BYU student is Utah Counseling Intern of the Year

A graduate student at Brigham Young University in the Department of Counseling Psychology and Special Education in the McKay School of Education received the 2005 Utah Counseling Intern of the Year Award.

Kelli Price won the award for her contributions as a school counselor and psychologist. The nominating professors unanimously voted for Price.

"My vote was for Kelli Price," said Ryan Burke. "She always goes the extra mile for everyone, whether student, teacher or parent."

The other professors who participated in her nomination-Tim Smith, Melissa Heath, Lane Fischer, Brent Coffman and Ellie Young-likewise focused on Price's work ethic and personality in their comments.

"She brings creativity to her work that is admirable," noted Smith.

Price's advisor and mentor Melissa Heath said, "Kelli is unassuming and works well behind the scenes. She is genuine and everyone who works with her senses the sincerity in her desire to assist people."

Price is from St. George and was an undergraduate at Southern Utah University in Cedar City when she decided to pursue a master's degree at BYU.

"I chose BYU because it was the only school that combined school counseling and psychology," said Price. She is now a full-time intern covering three schools in the Alpine School District.

Following graduation in August, Price plans to continue working as a school counselor and psychologist and eventually hopes to receive her doctorate in psychology.
