BYU student bloggers win iPad Minis for political posts

Two Brigham Young University students, Bronwen Dromey and Dallin McKinnon, won new iPad Minis for participating in the Live Blogging Competition conducted by the David M. Kennedy Center for International Studies during fall semester.

In this competition, students were invited to read The New York Times daily and blog about their personal views on current events. Bronwen Dromey shared her opinions and questions on homeless youth and Syrian refugees.

“Blogging pushed me to develop my own position on important issues, rather than just read and ingest them without thought,” Dromey said. “I enjoyed the feedback and discussion that took place as I read through the thoughts and opinions of my peers. I highly recommend it to anyone wishing to develop into a more informed global citizen.”

Dallin McKinnon posted his thoughts on drones and Italian democracy.

“I enjoyed having a quality conversation with other BYU students about current events and foreign affairs,” McKinnon said. “Discussions like this are an important part of a college education. The Kennedy Center does a great job of creating opportunities to have these kinds of conversations.”

Students from any major are invited to continue the conversation during winter semester by visiting the David M. Kennedy Center to pick up the New York Times daily, Monday through Friday, contributing to the blogs, posting via Facebook (David M. Kennedy Center) or on Twitter (#kennedylive).
