BYU School of Music presents Flute Choir in recital Nov. 17

Brigham Young University's Flute Choir will perform Wednesday, Nov. 17 at 8 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall.

Admission is free and open to the public.

The choir will perform a variety of pieces including Overture to "The Wasps'" by Ralph Vaughan Williams, "Minuet and Dance of the Blessed Spirits" by Christoph Willibald Ritter von Gluck, "Romanian Folk Dances" by Bela Bartók and "Arabesque I" by Claude Debussy.

The entire ensemble of 20 students will perform two pieces under the direction of Emily Outhier and smaller divisions of the choir will play four pieces without a conductor.

"Working together in a smaller setting enriches the educational experience as the members learn how to listen carefully to one another and how to run their own rehearsal," Outhier said.

This Flute Choir is one of two flute ensembles at BYU. This choir is for non-music majors and is formed every year whereas the other choir is for music majors and performs every other year.

"Students who played the flute in middle school or high school but choose not to major in music find this an enjoyable way to continue playing in an ensemble," Outhier said.

For more information contact Emily Outhier at (801) 422-8903.
