BYU School of Music plans Instrumental Showcase Sept. 30

Brigham Young University's Symphonic Band, Symphony Orchestra, Wind Symphony and Philharmonic Orchestra will present an Instrumental Showcase Tuesday, Sept. 30, at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall of the Harris Fine Arts Center.

Tickets at $9 for the general public with $3 off with a BYU or student ID are available at the Fine Arts Ticket Office, (801) 378-4322 or at www.byu.edu/hfac.

The Symphonic Band under the direction of Donald Peterson will perform Norman Dello Joio's "Scenes from the Louvre" as well as Malcolm Arnold's "English Dances."

The Symphony Orchestra with conductor Eric Hansen will perform the Overture to "Candide" by Leonard Bernstein and Movement 1 from "Symphonie 'Mathis der Maler'" by Paul Hindemith.

Under the direction of David Blackinton, the Wind Symphony will start the second half of the program with Walter Piston's "Turnbridge Fair." The Symphony will also perform "Pas Redouble" by Camille Saint-Saens, "Amazing Grace" arranged by William Hines, and David Hosinger's "Scootin' on Hardrock."

The program will conclude with a performance by the Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Kory Katseanes. The Orchestra will perform "Sabre Dance" by Aram Khachaturian, "Slavonic Dance" op. 72, no. 8 by Antonin Dvorak, and "Bump" by Christopher Rouse.
