BYU School of Music offers free concerts

The School of Music at Brigham Young University will host three free student ensemble concerts following the Thanksgiving break at various venues around campus.

Tuesday, Nov. 29

Woodwind Chamber: The BYU Woodwind Chamber concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. in  313 University Parkway Center located on the northeast corner of University Parkway and University Avenue. The concert will feature various student artists on clarinet, bassoon, oboe, flute, piano and piccolo. They will perform nine various numbers including “While Liquid Amber” by Chaya Czernowin and the three-movement “Histoire du Tango” by Astor Piazolla. 

Wednesday, Nov. 30

Trombone Choir: The BYU Trombone Choir will showcase its semester’s work at 5:30 p.m. in  313 University Parkway Center located on the northeast corner of University Parkway and University Avenue. The 14-student group will be conducted by Steven Hunter. They will perform seven pieces, including “Ave Maria” by Anton Bruckner and they will end the program by ushering in the Christmas season with “Ten Christmas Carrols” by Tommy Pederson.

Saturday, Dec. 3

Harp Ensemble: The BYU Harp Ensemble will perform its winter concert at 7:30 in the Madsen Recital Hall. The concert will take the audience on a journey through the four seasons. Different students and ensembles will perform 13 numbers, including “Fantaisie” by Camille Saint-Saens and “African Reflections” by Monika Stadler. The ensemble also arranged Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons” and will be performing the four arranged movements throughout the night.

Green-thumb dynasty: BYU landscaping wins fifth national championship in six years

For the fifth time in six years, BYU students dug, pruned and planted their way to the National Collegiate Landscaping Competition title, the March Madness of college landscaping teams. BYU bested 50 other universities in the four-day event, outscoring the second-place finisher by more than 358 points and breaking the 5000-point total for the first time in the 48-year history of the tournament.
