BYU School of Music hosts Saxophone Chamber night March 16

The Brigham Young University School of Music presents Saxophone Chamber Night Tuesday, March 16, at 7:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall.

The performance is free and the public is welcome to attend.

The recital will feature performances by two saxophone quartets with Steve Tobian, Chris Storey, Blake Wilkins, Rachelle Reid, Megan Fisher, Skyler Murray, Brian Reschke and Randall Brown.

Director D.B. Long expects the recital to be a success, calling the chamber night “a favorite.”

“The music performed is fun to listen to,” Long said. “Next to the steel drums, the saxophone is the newest of the acoustic instruments. Many consider the sound of the saxophone closest to the plaintive sounds of the human voice. Humans like the sound of their own voices and they like the sound of the saxophone as well.”

The performance will include music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Rowland H. Prichard, Joseph Haydn, Johann Christian Bach, Jean Rivier, Charles Gounod and Jacob Fisher.
