BYU replaces entrance to parking lot north of Indoor Practice Facility

Scheduled to be completed in mid-July

Brigham Young University is replacing the north entrance to parking lot 37 located north of the Indoor Practice Facility with a new entrance to the southwest.

Construction begins this week on the new entrance, which will be located on Canyon Road, about 250 feet southwest of the current entrance. The project will last until about mid-July.

BYU officials say the change is needed because the north entrance to parking lot 37, situated north of the Indoor Practice Facility and west of the outdoor turf fields, is too close to the 1230 N. Canyon Road intersection.

"It's a safety issue," said Paul Reese, university civil engineer. "Provo City requested the turning lane be moved farther south in order to make it safer."

Currently, there is not enough turning-lane distance for the left turn lane heading north on Canyon Road and the left turn lane headed south into the parking lot, Reese said.

The north entrance will be replaced with additional parking. The access road on the east of the parking lot will still be used and will connect with the new entrance.

Geneva Rock is the contractor for the project.
