BYU recital Sept. 23 to feature music by LDS composers

An evening showcasing composers who are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will take place at Brigham Young University’s Madsen Recital Hall Thursday, Sept. 23, at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are $10 for students, $5 for children and $20 for a family pack. Tickets are available by visiting the Fine Arts Ticket Office, byuarts.com or by calling (801) 422-4322.

The concert, titled “A Celebration of Mormon Music: From Crawford Gates to Trevor Matthews,” will celebrate the vibrant LDS composers of the past and present. Music by LDS composers like Crawford Gates, Marie Nelson and Robert Manookin will be performed, as well as pieces from recent BYU graduates like Trevor Matthews, Mark Daniel Witmer and Benjamin Taylor. Works by BYU faculty will also be performed.

Music from LDS composers living outside the United States will also be represented, including works by Australian composer John W. Grant and Kuwait-based English composer Harriet Bushman.

The concert is hosted by the LDS Composers Trust, an organization that promotes the discovery, performance, recording and promoting of classical or concert music by Mormon composers.
