BYU professor Lynn Clark Callister receives national March of Dimes Award

The Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses recently presented its March of Dimes "Saving Babies, Together" Award to Lynn Clark Callister, a Brigham Young University professor of nursing, for her research related to postpartum depression. The award was presented at the AWHONN national convention in Las Vegas in September.

The "Saving Babies, Together" Award is presented annually to an experienced investigator whose research reflects the common commitment of the March of Dimes and AWHONN to promote the health of women and newborns. The award is supported through an educational grant from the March of Dimes.

Callister’s award-winning research explores the prevalence and impact of postpartum depression among disadvantaged Hispanic women, as well as the barriers to accessing appropriate care. She has conducted many research projects related to childbearing women and is widely published in the fields of global health and nursing.

“Dr. Callister’s research is vital to the health of new mothers and infants," said AWHONN CEO Karen Peddicord.

Callister holds a bachelor of science degree in nursing from BYU, a master's degree in nursing from Wichita State University and a doctorate in parent/child nursing from the University of Utah. She is an American Academy of Nursing fellow.

The Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses is the foremost nursing authority that advances the health care of women and newborns through advocacy, research and the creation of high quality, evidence-based standards of care.
