BYU presents children's theatre production of "Taming of the Shrew"

Brigham Young University’s Department of Theatre and Media Arts will be showing one of William Shakespeare’s most famous plays “The Taming of the Shrew” Sept. 8-18 in the Nelke Theatre on the second level of the Harris Fine Arts Center. Showings usually begin at 7 p.m. with matinee shows also available.

The production is specially adapted to children ages 2-11 and will last about an hour. It will also be presented as a circus act with clowns, slapsticks and puppets. Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for children 2-11 and are available at the Fine Arts Ticket Office, (801) 422-4322 or at byuarts.com.

The play tells the story of Petruchio, who is trying to win the love of Kate, a bad-tempered and sharped-tonged woman. The audience members will judge whether Petruchio’s methods are the best way to win over Kate. The printed program will also include children's games and puzzles related to the play.

The play is directed by David Morgan from a script adapted by Teresa Dayley Love, with Allison Black as stage manager. Scenery was designed by Janet Swenson with costumes designed by Deanne Dewitt. The sound designer is KT Harrel, makeup and hair design is by Mckell Crandall, the juggling coach/circus consultant is Matthew Love and the puppets are designed by Nathanial Reed.
