BYU posts holiday hours for campus museums, library and Bookstore

Although classes at Brigham Young University come to a halt for three weeks during Christmas break, the campus will still offer activities and entertainment for students and families during special holiday hours.

The Earth Science Museum featuring "Torvosaurus Tanneri," a large, carnivorous dinosaur and two fully mounted skeletons of a camptosaurus and an allosaurus, will be closed from Dec. 23 through Dec. 26 and from Dec. 31 through Jan. 2. The museum is located at 1683 North Canyon Road in Provo and admission is free.

The Monte L. Bean Life Science Museum’s current exhibits, including “Bears of the World,” will be closed Dec. 24-26 and Dec. 31-Jan. 2 for the holidays. Admission is free.

The Museum of Peoples and Cultures, located at 700 North 100 E. in Provo, presents the exhibits "Rise Up from Fragments: Life and Arts of the Western Anasazi” and “Seeking the Divine: Ritual, Prayer and Celebration.” Museum hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. The museum will be closed for the majority of the holiday break, but individual tours can be scheduled by calling (801) 422-0020.

The Harold B. Lee Library will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 27 through Jan. 7, but will be closed Dec. 24-26 and Dec. 31- Jan. 2.

L. Tom Perry Special Collections at the Harold B. Lee Library will open the exhibition, “Remembering Joseph Smith, Jr. 1805-2005,” in the O.C. Tanner Gallery of Special Collections Thursday, Dec. 8. The exhibit celebrates the 200th anniversary of the Prophet Joseph Smith. Admission is free. The exhibit is located on the first level of the library. It will be open to the public Dec. 19-30 and Jan. 3-13 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, and will be closed Saturdays.

The BYU Bookstore will offer a 20 percent employee discount storewide Dec. 3-Dec. 17. The Bookstore will be open Dec. 24 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Dec. 27-30 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. It will be closed Dec. 25-26 and Dec. 31.

Green-thumb dynasty: BYU landscaping wins fifth national championship in six years

For the fifth time in six years, BYU students dug, pruned and planted their way to the National Collegiate Landscaping Competition title, the March Madness of college landscaping teams. BYU bested 50 other universities in the four-day event, outscoring the second-place finisher by more than 358 points and breaking the 5000-point total for the first time in the 48-year history of the tournament.
