BYU plans Winter Choirfest Jan. 28-29

The Brigham Young University Concert Choir, BYU Singers, Women's Chorus and Men's Chorus join together for the annual Winter Choirfest on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 28-29, at 7:30 p.m. in the Provo Tabernacle.

Tickets are $9. For tickets, call the Fine Arts Ticket Office at (801) 378-4322 or visit http://performances.byu.edu.

The combined choirs will start the program singing "Ring Out, Ye Crystal Spheres," by K. Lee Scott. The Concert Choir will then follow under the direction of Rosalind Hall by singing "Choral Fanfare" by John Rutter and "I Will Sing Unto the Lord" by Imant Raminsh.

BYU Singers will perform under the direction of Ronald Staheli. They will sing a variety of songs including "The World Is Not My Home" by Johannes Brahms and "Peace Like a River" arranged by Staheli.

Under the direction of Jean Applonie, the Women's Chorus will sing "In the Beginning" by Imant Raminsh and "Spell to Bring Lost Creatures Home" by Bob Chilcott.

The Men's Chorus will perform under the direction of Rosalind Hall. They will perform "Great Day, by Vincent Youmans and arranged by Roy Ringwald and "The Long Day Closes" by Arthur Sullivan.

Green-thumb dynasty: BYU landscaping wins fifth national championship in six years

For the fifth time in six years, BYU students dug, pruned and planted their way to the National Collegiate Landscaping Competition title, the March Madness of college landscaping teams. BYU bested 50 other universities in the four-day event, outscoring the second-place finisher by more than 358 points and breaking the 5000-point total for the first time in the 48-year history of the tournament.
