BYU plans Choral Showcase Sept. 29 and 30 in de Jong Concert Hall

The Brigham Young University Singers, Men's Chorus, Concert Choir and Women's Chorus will be featured during a Choral Showcase Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 29-30, at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall.

Tickets are available through the Fine Arts Ticket Office at (801) 378-4322 or at www.byu.edu/hfac for $9 with $3 off with student ID.

The Men's Chorus under the direction of Rosalind Hall will perform "Praise Him!" by Michael Cox, "Birds of Fire" by Paul Halley and "Awake My Sons" by Lane Johnson.

Hall will also conduct the Concert Choir. They will perform "A Chant for Peace in Our Time" by Theodore Morrison, "Sanctus" from the Mass for Double Chorus by Frank Martin and "Dravidian dithyramb" by Victor Paranjoti.

Under the direction of Ronald Staheli, the BYU Singers will perform works by Paul Halley, Johannes Brahms and Hugo Distler.

The Women's Chorus directed by Jean Applonie will perform "I Thank You God" by Gwyneth Walker, "O Salutaris Hostia" by Frank Ferko and "Fences" by Andre Thomas.

A "Group Sing" will close the program with the audience joining in to sing an American folk song arranged by Ryan Murphy and the combined choirs singing "Ring Out, Ye Crystal Sphere" by K. Lee Scott.

Green-thumb dynasty: BYU landscaping wins fifth national championship in six years

For the fifth time in six years, BYU students dug, pruned and planted their way to the National Collegiate Landscaping Competition title, the March Madness of college landscaping teams. BYU bested 50 other universities in the four-day event, outscoring the second-place finisher by more than 358 points and breaking the 5000-point total for the first time in the 48-year history of the tournament.
