BYU Philharmonic, Chamber Orchestras combine for Dec. 1 concert

Featuring BYU faculty pianist Scott Holden

Brigham Young University’s School of Music will present a combined performance by the Chamber and Philharmonic Orchestras featuring guest faculty pianist Scott Holden on Saturday, Dec. 1, at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall.

Admission will be $10, or $7 with a BYU or student ID. Tickets can be purchased at the Fine Arts Ticket Office, by calling (801) 422-4322 or by visiting performances.byu.edu.

The performance, conducted by Kory Katseanes, will feature the Overture to "The Wasps” by Ralph Vaughan Williams, the Concerto No. 3 for Piano and Orchestra in C Major, Op. 26 by Sergei Prokofiev and the Symphony No. 4 in B-flat, Op. 60 by Ludwig van Beethoven.

BYU faculty artist Scott Holden has an active career as a piano soloist, chamber musician and teacher. He received degrees from the University of Michigan, the Manhattan School of Music and The Juilliard School. He also studied for a year at the Liszt Academy in Budapest as a Fulbright Scholar. He has performed throughout the world and has recorded several CDs.

The BYU Chamber Orchestra specializes in playing classical works. The quality of its members and the diversity of its repertoire have earned it the highest recommendation rating from the National Endowment of the Arts as well as a recording contract with Pyramid Records of Paris. They frequently tour in the United States and Canada and have performed in China, Taiwan and throughout Europe.

The BYU Philharmonic Orchestra plays compositions from all musical periods. The ensemble consists of 95 of the university’s finest musicians. The orchestra regularly tours throughout the western United States.
