BYU panel to feature Iraq, Afghanistan veterans on Oct. 19

The College Democrats and College Republicans at Brigham Young University will sponsor a question-and-answer symposium at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, in the Joseph Smith Building auditorium featuring veterans who were deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Mark Patterson, symposium organizer and a veteran who served in Iraq, says the event is in response to the many questions students ask him about what has actually took place in those areas.

"We want to provide students with a completely objective source of firsthand information," Patterson says. "This will be conducted in a civilized, formal manner for students to come ask questions and be informed."

Panelists represent a broad spectrum of experiences, including infantry, intelligence and civil affairs. Students will be able to submit written questions for the panelists.

The symposium is open to the public and free of charge. Special invitations have been made to the BYU Army and Air Force ROTC to attend.

For all media inquiries, please contact Mark Patterson at (801)361-2799, map96@email.byu.edu.
