BYU Opera Chorus debuts Thursday in free performance

The Brigham Young University School of Music presents the debut of the BYU Opera Chorus, their newest ensemble, in concert Thursday, Nov. 15 at 7:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall.

This event is free and open to the public. The Madsen Recital Hall is located inside the Harris Fine Arts Center.

A selection of pieces by Georges Bizet will follow, including the anvil chorus from “Il Trovatore,” the chorus of the Hebrew slaves from “Nabucco” and the cigarette girl’s chorus and habanera from “Carmen.” “Polovetsian Dances” from Alexander Borodin’s “Prince Igor” will be presented featuring members of the BYU International Folk Ensemble before a brief intermission.

The final three performances of the evening will be “The Last Time I Saw Rain” from Ricky Ian Gordon’s “The Grapes of Wrath,” “Bess, You Is My Woman Now,” from George Gershwin’s “Porgy and Bess” and “The Promise of Living” from Aaron Copland’s “The Tender Land.”
