BYU museum offers programs for scouts June 22, 29

As part of its 50th anniversary celebrations, Brigham Young University’s Museum of Peoples and Cultures will host two programs for Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts this summer to provide them with the opportunity to earn merit badges and special patches:

• The Archaeology Merit Badge Blitz will be held for Boy Scouts Wednesday, June 22. Scouts will attend a two-and-a-half hour session that will fulfill all of the requirements for the Archaeology Merit Badge. Three separate sessions will be held at 4 p.m., 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. The cost is $5 per scout and there is no fee for accompanying leaders. Reservations for the Merit Badge Blitz are required and can be made by calling the museum’s education department at (801) 422-0022.

• An Open House for Cub Scouts will be Wednesday, June 29, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Each scout will have the chance to earn the Museum of Peoples and Cultures’ Activity Patch by attending this event. Cubs and Dens can come and go as they please, and no fees or reservations are required. Every Cub Scout in uniform will receive a special prize.

“Cub Scouts can come have fun while learning and passing off electives,” said Kari Nelson, curator of education at the MPC.

Both events will take place at the museum, located on 100 E. and 700 N. in Provo. For more information, call the museum at (801) 422-0022, e-mail mpc_programs@byu.edu or visit mpc.byu.edu.
