BYU multiculturalism celebrated during World Fest Nov. 18-21

World Fest, Brigham Young University’s annual celebration of international cultures, will be celebrated Tuesday through Friday, Nov. 18-21, in the Wilkinson Student Center.

“With more than 2,100 international students on campus from more than 100 countries, World Fest is a great occasion to celebrate the rich and varied cultures represented here,” said Miles Ogden, International Services student adviser. “Beyond that, this is also a wonderful opportunity for the many members of our community who have traveled abroad or who have served missions in foreign countries to continue their cultural associations.”

A Chinese dragon and a live performance by BYU’s Living Legends will kick off World Fest 2008 Tuesday at noon in the WSC Garden Court, with additional performances during the noon hour each day of World Fest.

BYU’s international students will host culture booths in the WSC Garden Court daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. displaying items from their homelands and teaching visitors about their customs.

A three-course banquet and international fashion show featuring students in traditional costumes will take place Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the WSC Ballroom. Tickets may be purchased at the WSC Information Desk for $8 through Nov. 18.

Food Fest will bring World Fest 2008 to a close Friday at 6 p.m. in the WSC Garden Court. Brazilian feijoada, Japanese sushi, Mexican tamales, French éclairs and German strudel represent only a few of the dishes that will be for sale. Food items are nominally priced from $.50 to $1.50. Food tickets may be purchased at the event. A free cultural talent showcase will follow at 7 p.m. in the WSC Ballroom.

A special invitation is extended to public school students and their teachers. Teachers should contact BYU International Services to reserve a time for their students to visit.
