BYU librarian named president-elect of national Latin American library group

John Wright of Brigham Young University’s Harold B. Lee Library has been elected vice president/president-elect of the national Seminar on the Acquisition of Latin American Library Materials.

According to the organization’s guidelines, Wright will serve his first year in office as vice president and will then assume the role of president. He is only the second library cataloger to be elected to this position in the seminar’s 50-year history.

He serves as the Spanish language cataloger and Library of Congress coordinator at BYU’s Harold B. Lee Library. He has been involved with the seminar since 1990 and has held many positions including chairman of a number of committees.

The seminar’s main purposes are to control and disseminate bibliographic information about Latin American publications and to increase library collections on Latin Americana. Additionally, the seminar is involved in library development in Latin American and Caribbean countries, and in providing library materials for Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking populations in the United States.
